The proposal i plan to do for my final project deals with america's problem with obesity compared to other countries across the world. America has had a growing obesity problem that has manifested itself for years now and has become a serious issue in many debates. how did we get to this point that 1/3 of all children in this country are obese or overweight? The argument goes back to what we eat and what we feed our kids compared to other countries and for many kids here in america the reality of a healthy meal is non existent. In the article "Obesity in america: It's Getting worse" the author Jennifer B. Marks explains that 2/3 of adults in this country are obese and overweight and its not due to how much they eat but to what they eat. fast food in this country is relatively cheap and is easy to get to and many children and adults in the united states do not have access to healthy fruits and vegetables because they are too expensive or there is no outlet or stores where these produce can be sold. America is number 2 in overall obesity compared to mexico which is number 1. A first world country has around the same health issues as a developing country like mexico is unacceptable. just because obesity happens here doesn't mean that its nonexistent in others as well. Britain is now known for their growing obesity problem as well. on the website medical news today they show the growing obesity rates in England in the mid 20's range which is comparable to our own males and females here. People in america are cornered to buy junk food because they offer cheaper calories for a very low price. this is on a count of large food companies getting subsidies from the farm bill, a huge legislation that is passed by congress that makes it possible for these food s to be sold at such a low price. obesity in america has a whole bigger narrative behind it which exposes greed and in-accountability which has put us in the state we are in. i hope to expand on these ideas in the upcoming project coming soon.
