Lesch, David W. The Arab-Israeli Conflict: A History. New York: Oxford University Press, 2008.
This book Gives a detailed description of the Arab Israeli conflict going back to the declaration of Israel as a state and the necessary background information to understand the state of Israel and its history of war with the outlying Arab countries.

Rotberg, Robert I. Israeli and Palestinian Narratives of Conflict: History's Double Helix. Bloomington: Indiana University Press, 2006.

The book offers a unique perspective on both the Israeli and Palestinian perspective on their conflict. the author states the obvious facts between these two and notes the misconception they have with each other with the Israeli citizens being misinformed about the situation that many Palestinians are in and what goes on out side their own borders like the food and humanitarian aid crisis.

Wasserstein, Bernard. Israelis and Palestinians: Why Do They Fight? Can They Stop?New Haven, Conn.: Yale University Press, 2003

This book offers both perspectives and solutions on how the Israeli and Palestinian governments can work together to provide the better benefit for both people in the region. One solution that the author had brought up was the attacks on Palestinian villages by the Israeli military. if they had offered up compensation for their transgressions like restoration of destroyed land, it would help bring Palestinian political leaders to the table towards the peace process.

Abukhater, Maher. "Food Aid Allowed to Enter Palestinian Refugee Camp in Syria." Los Angeles Times. Los Angeles Times, 18 Jan. 2014. Web. 07 May 2014.

This Los Angeles times article talks about the resent progress that the Israeli military has done to help bring better food security towards Palestinians with humanitarian aid to better help feed these people instead of a fraction of the population.
Th
Mason, Alane Salierno, Dedi Felman, and Samantha Schnee. Words Without Borders: The World Through the Eyes of Writers : An Anthology. New York: Anchor Books, 2007.

In this anthology one writer talks about the shared ideas of literature and how it has no boundaries between different political groups like Palestinians and Israelis. She compares and contrasts the different styles of literature and how closely associated they are with each other with the same idea of peace.

Carter, Jimmy. Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid. New York: Simon & Schuster, 2006.

In this Book Former President Jimmy Carter calls on action by the United Nations to bring peace upon the situation in Israel calling to end the apartheid in the Gaza strip and West Bank. One of the most important arguments he does bring up is the Lack of aid going throughout these regions where the Israeli government have had restrictive laws preventing them from getting that aid.

"UN World Food Program." In Gaza, WFP Turns Women Into Community Nutritionists. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2014.

This article by the world food program talks about Palestinian women learning how to become Nutritionists in their own household and efforts by the world food program on how to teach them. Many Palestinian citizens go malnourished every day and these aid effort allows them to have more food independence and security since the average house hold in these territories spend half of their income on rising prices of food.

Remy, Mina. "Recovery after Winter Storm Alexa." GrassrootsOnline.org. N.p., n.d. Web. 08 May 2014.

In this article the PARC (Palestinian agricultural relief committee) Directs their efforts in Palestine to help with a resent winter storm that has killed many crops and could cause the price of food to skyrocket even more.

Hans Lofgren, Alan Richards, (2003) "Food security, poverty, and economic policy in the Middle East and North Africa", , Vol. Iss: 5, pp.1 - 31

In this Anthology The author goes in depth with how to start food security in Palestine with utilizing their own homes and rooftops to start. the main problem that Palestinians have in growing plants is that there is no water available to grow them so if they are put on rooftops, crops have better chance for water through rain and instead of paying most of their income for more expensive crops.

The Columbia Encyclopedia, 6th edition (2009)  "Gaza Strip"

This article goes into the depth on the 2008 Israeli Hamas conflict and goes into detail on how much more was lost on the Palestinian side compared to only 13 deaths on the Israeli side and goes into how much agricultural land was lost for Palestinians.

“We Know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians”.-Nelson Mandela. In its very Long and storied history the two states of Israel and Palestine have been at a standstill with bloody and violent conflicts that have spanned more than several decades. The Jewish state of Israel in its history has had its clashes with the Palestinian people since Israel was established in 1948 which has resulted in three Arab-Israeli wars. The first Arab-Israeli war which had spanned from 1948 to 1949 involved the Arab league (Syria, Egypt Jordan and the Holy War Army) and Israel. The end result was a split between the established state of Israel and Palestine with more than 700,000 Palestinians being displaced from their own land. The six day war in 1967 between the Arabs and Israelis was a fierce war that had involved Syria, Egypt and Jordan that had decided the current borders of today’s Israel and Palestine with Israel benefiting from the war the most and controlling Palestine’s current territory in the Gaza strip. They had also taken control of access to the West Bank which was to be believed to be the holy land that god had promised them in the Holy Bible as well as the holy city of Jerusalem. The Israeli leader at the time Ariel Sharon and the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat had tried to settle for a peace treaty between the two countries multiple times during the 90’s but both sides could not come to an agreement between one state and two state solutions. The Israeli government has had a control of Palestinian resources since they have taken over the Gaza strip and the West Bank and now the current crisis the people of Palestine are facing now is a lack of access to clean water and their food sources.
Today the current situation between Israelis and the Palestinians is one of the most heated debate topics across the world with many critics of the Israeli regime and accounts of their human rights violations against the people of Palestine. The history of deaths and abuse have piled up more on the Israeli side with their military killing many Palestinian civilians through air raids and bombing Palestinian villages in the Gaza strip. The Palestinian opposition does not go blameless as well as they have killed a number of Israeli civilians and their current leading party, Hamas, is labeled as a terrorist group by the U.N. because of their attacks on Israeli citizens. The current Prime minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the leader of Hamas, the ruling political party in Palestine, Khaled Mashal has both tried to go about peace talks both still today have not come about in settling for a one or two state solution. One of the problems that come up with the peace process between Israel and Palestine is the claim to resources between the two countries in which Israel has inherently claimed most of the fertile land used to grow crops and raise livestock.
The Current situation occurring in Palestine is the food crisis there. Palestine’s food crisis is a unique situation because there is enough food for everyone there to eat. Compared to other refugee situations like in Sudan where food packages are airdropped to the villages constantly on account of rebels stealing the food supply or like Syria where the situation is just too dangerous to provide for some refugees and starvation is a huge possibility for them. Many Palestinian farmers have land near the border and grow crops as a source of food for their families but are sometimes warded away by the Israeli military force or shot at. Palestine has very fertile land where many families grow orchids like olive trees and many different crops like cucumber and bell peppers and that many of these crops and land have been passed down from generation to generation in Palestinian families. My Friend Manar Kustiro had visited Palestine back in 2009 and visited her grandfather who lives in Hebron. She described the many crops that her grandfather grew ranging to thinks like fig trees, olive trees and grape vines to vegetables like cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes. The problem with maintaining these farmlands were the access to water which the Israeli government controlled and was like “winning the lottery” when water came from his hose and soon after his crops failed just waiting for the water Israel would grant him, if any at all. The amount a small Palestinian village gets in water a week isn’t enough to fill a small swimming pool which is completely unacceptable living condition.
Journalist Eva Bartlett had held an event here at UB showing the atrocities of what Palestinian civilians had to go through where a father was killed trying to tend to his farm near the Israeli border and was sadly shot and killed without a way to provide for his family. She also gave account on how the Israeli military had used military bulldozers to destroy their farms. Without these farms, the price of food available exponentially increases and the average household spends over half of their income on food. Another guest speaker, Miko Peled whose father was a general during the six day war and an Israeli citizen, came here in April and described the living conditions where the Israeli government is purposely trying to hurt the Palestinian people and justify their reasons by claiming that they are retaliating against terrorist actions. He also talks about the “lack” of resources and the unwillingness of the Israeli government to aid starving Palestinian families. The Israeli government has also put bans on fishing which greatly effect Palestinian fishermen and the food crisis there leaving many men, women and children hungry. The ban applies to boats that are three miles off the coast of the Gaza border and even then they are hosed away from fishing sites and sent back or even arrested. The Israeli military has also performed airstrikes on chicken farms in the Gaza strip and west bank taking away some civilians only source of food.
Many civilians in the west bank and Gaza live in very poor to inhumane living conditions.  Many homes are submerged in sewage due to lack of proper piping and no electricity available. Because of the poor sewage systems they are also cut off access to fresh clean water since the sewage contaminates their only water source. The Israeli military has performed horrible acts against humanity on the Palestinian people but has gone on deaf ears in the U.N. and are not held responsible for their actions. Israel has violated 45 United Nations resolutions and yet has had no sanctions or punishments put against them while they encroach the Gaza strip and West Bank with their settlements which is also another violation of their U.N. agreement to stay off of the Palestinian territories. In these illegal settlements, settlers from Israel burn many Palestinian crops clearing land for more settlements. The excuse for encroaching on this land is rapid population growth which in their eyes justifies their actions. The Israeli government is smothering the people of Palestine with no sense of remorse or humility and should not go overlooked by the international community.
Palestine is unique from other because it’s not food deprived because of their area or because of poverty, they are impoverished and starving because of the Israeli military cutting all access to food and aid and clean water. There are huge disparities between the Israelis and the Palestinians in how they live. On the other side in Israel many people live in luxury and food security and access to free clean water while the Palestinians starve for their lives. Organizations like the PARC, the Palestinian agricultural relief committee try to ease the burden of hunger by providing Palestinian refugees’ fruit and vegetable plants and teaching women how to use land between buildings and rooftops in order to grow their food for their family and providing greater food security for Palestinians. Other organizations like Bustan also provide livestock like cows and goats to give a meat source for many Palestinians. One of their bigger projects is creating centers in Palestinian villages that provide education and training for six months in ecofriendly construction of buildings and farm environments really giving Palestinians the access and power to provide for themselves.  In Gaza, Palestinians have a harder time trying to grow food in their own backyards because they are sharply watched by the Israeli government and are restricted on their movement and access to goods and food so growing is near impossible for some.

Overall the food crisis in Palestine can simply be avoided if the Israeli government simply negotiated with the Palestinians and release the sanctions on the water allowing refugees to fish. Humanitarian aid is not needed to help the Palestinians from an artificial crisis created by the Israeli government. When military bulldozers destroy many of the agriculture of these refugees the money American citizens give to Israel goes to these senseless and cruel acts. The international community has donated about 7.2 billion dollars between 2000 and 2009 in humanitarian aid and it does not make up to permanently resolve this issue through the political process. The United States government gives the most aid to this country with over 1 billion given to Israel every year when the money is being wasted on military bulldozers and weapons that constantly attack the livelihood and the food sources of many Palestinians. Donations still do very little because of the restriction of moving goods through the Gaza strip and west bank. This situation can get better through many options. One option is for the international community to put political pressure on Israel. Israel is a strategic ally in the Middle East and helps the United States monitor the situation in the region but the humanitarian crisis cannot be ignored. If the United States were to stop federal aid to Israel they would have to comply with our wishes and be demanded to take responsibility for their actions and stop cutting water and food to Palestine. Another option would be to donate to these programs that were aforementioned in the essay like PARC and Bustan because it allow for greater food independence from Israel easing the food crisis in the country rather than just simply donating to world aid. If we donate to smaller venues actually helping people in Palestine there can be a huge change in how they live. These solutions offer a better future for the people of Palestine and allow them to thrive and better themselves through means of their own land buildings and resources even when their water and food access is cut off.

Bagchi, Debasis, and Harry G Preuss. Obesity: Epidemiology, Pathophysiology, and Prevention. Boca Raton, FL: CRC Press, 2013.

The article talks about the growing epidemic of obesity throughout the world and how it has been labeled by the world health organization as "globesity". This relates to the subject at hand with obesity across the world as it is not  limited to just American Borders.1.5 billion people in the world are overweight according to the world health organization which has doubled since 1980. there is a lack of nutrition in many parts of the world which has lead up to this and cheap calorie intake greatly contribute to this because of how cheap and inexpensive "junk food" is.

Woodward-Lopez, Gail. Obesity: Dietary and Developmental Influences. Boca Raton, FL: CRC/Taylor & Francis, 2006.

The article talks about the developmental issues with obesity and how kids are more likely to get these issues than adults.More and more people everyday have less access to healthy foods including children and are more likely to be prone to obesity because of "Food Deserts" which are places that offer no healthy alternatives for food or healthy food is very expensive compared to cheaper unhealthier alternatives.

The proposal i plan to do for my final project deals with america's problem with obesity compared to other countries across the world. America has had a growing obesity problem that has manifested itself for years now and has become a serious issue in many debates. how did we get to this point that 1/3 of all children in this country are obese or overweight? The argument goes back to what we eat and what we feed our kids compared to other countries and for many kids here in america the reality of a healthy meal is non existent. In the article "Obesity in america: It's Getting worse" the author Jennifer B. Marks explains that 2/3 of adults in this country are obese and overweight and its not due to how much they eat but to what they eat. fast food in this country is relatively cheap and is easy to get to and many children and adults in the united states do not have access to healthy fruits and vegetables because they are too expensive or there is no outlet or stores where these produce can be sold. America is number 2 in overall obesity compared to mexico which is number 1. A first world country has around the same health issues as a developing country like mexico is unacceptable. just because obesity happens here doesn't mean that its nonexistent in others as well. Britain is now known for their growing obesity problem as well. on the website medical news today they show the growing obesity rates in England in the mid 20's range which is comparable to our own males and females here. People in america are cornered to buy junk food because they offer cheaper calories for a very low price. this is on a count of large food companies getting subsidies from the farm bill, a huge legislation that is passed by congress that makes it possible for these food s to be sold at such a low price. obesity in america has a whole bigger narrative behind it which exposes greed and in-accountability which has put us in the state we are in. i hope to expand on these ideas in the upcoming project coming soon.

The Articles "March of the Food Snobs" And "The Fat Drug" offers a deep insight and perspective on the food culture here in America. In the article march of the food snobs the author here explains two sides of food lovers with Food aficionados and food snobs. Food Snobs in this article represent a more wealthier type of people who can afford the best quality food around them and have accessibility to these areas. Food Enthusiasts tend to just appreciate food for what it is. The most interesting thing I found in the article was when the author had mentioned about the limitations of impoverished people's access to food. Food snobs are more refined of what they eat but due to people who live in poverty and hunger and with disabilities, refined food is not available for them which really shows their ignorance of situations and circumstances around them. The second article " The Fat Drug" really goes into the research and the truths behind the livestock industry and what is really put into these animals and how far it goes to effect humans. the article shows the relation on how livestock industries fatten up their animals which in turn can relay back to us.

Kevin's Blog entry

Blog Entry about fairy tale
In the Fairy-tale, Jack and The Beanstalk, there is an important food theme riddled across the book from beginning to end which is hunger and hers why. in the beginning of the story they describe the main character jack and his mother very poor and only depending on a cow that produces milk. jack sells the cow for magic beans which in turn gives him access to riches like gold and a goose that lays golden eggs which provide him and his mother a steady income of money and food. the same theme can be found in the fairy-tale Hansel and Gretel where a brother and sister go deep into the forest of a house filled with candy but also home to a witch. it describes of how desperate people get when they get hungry that they'll but their own lives in danger. Main theme between these two fairy-tales is hunger drives people to do ridiculous things which for the most part most people can agree on.

Redo To introduction Paragraph
In Michael Pollan’s Article “Out of the Kitchen, onto the fire” he talks a great deal of how he grew up with his mother and family watching Julia Child in “The art of French Cooking” and how the family dynamic of that time was more with siting down and enjoying meals with the family. Pollan's Statement"Cooking is no longer obligatory, and for many people, women especially, that has been a blessing." Seems to suggest that women are responsible as the chef in the house and later on in the article suggest that women are to blame from less home cooked meals and family meals. Men are just as responsible for the cooking in the house as women and in some households men mostly hold the chef position. Pollan's article seems very narrow minded and after interviewing My mother and father who both cook gives evidence why.
